Who We Are

The Central Railway Model & Historical Society is a group of men and women, young and old, living in the Upstate of South Carolina, who love trains; past, present, and future--and in any way, shape, or form!

Railroad history, modeling, rail fanning, photgraphy, and the collecting of railroad memorabilia are the main interests of the club members, and the promotion of railroading is our goal. We have operated model trains at numerous festivals in the area, and displayed railroad dioramas and exhibits in libraries and hobby shops of the Upstate. Since 1997 the club has presented an annual train show, for the education and enjoyment of the general public..

What We Do

We are a not-for-profit educational and recreation association dedicated to the preservation and recording of, and education about upstate South Carolina railroad history. We do this through visual recording (photography, video recorders), lectures and presentations, and modeling railroads. We have created special interest groups within the club to help people coordinate efforts in their chosen areas of interest.

General Interest

This group contains the majority of our members. People who are simply interested in railroads or represent a small portion of modellers that do not have enough numbers within the association to create their own special interest group.

HO Division

Roughly one third of our membership belongs to the HO division, with some cross-over from the N Division. The HO division has built twelve modules on behalf of the CRM&HA with the intent of increasing members' modeling skills, and providing a portable display and diorama of railroading in the upstate.

N Division

The remaining third of the membership consists of the N Division. N-Trak modelers who have build a core of modules for use by the CRM&HA for display and operational purposes. Inidividual members also have modules, and as space permits, they bring them to shows, demonstrations, and NMRA/N-Trak meets to create much larger track configurations.

Meetings and Facilities

Business meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM in the Pickens County Library in Central, on Highway 93. After taking care of business, an educational program (either video or demonstration) is presented, high-lighting the various interests of the Association.

Club Facilities

We are always searching for suitable facilities within the Upstate to house our layouts and to provide space for a library, workrooms, museum displays, and perhaps, a future gift shop. In the meantime our modules are displayed and maintained in a member's home in Clemson, and in the Rail & Spike Hobby Shop in Easley.

Newsletter

A bi-monthly newsletter is published and sent to each member, via mail or email. This outstanding newsletter consists of timely reports on current activities of the Association, and many up-to-date modeling and operating suggestions for advanced, as well as novice modelers.
